Increasing Production System Parallelism via Synchronization Minimazation and Check-Ahead Conflict Resolution

چکیده

{ This paper explores new techniques to improve the performance of production or rule-based systems. In particular, a rule-splitting mechanism using constraint domain analysis and a check-rule mechanism are proposed to extract internal paral-lelism among rules. This rule-splitting mechanism can also be used to solve the load balancing problem caused by culprit rules which require comparisons with many more working memory elements than those of other rules. In addition, a new connict resolution strategy, called Check-Ahead Connict Resolution, based on the last-in rst-out scheduling discipline is presented to select multiple instantiations to re simultaneously. Simulation results show that the speed-up of production systems obtained by applying the Check-Ahead Connict Resolution strategy with the rule-splitting and check-rule mechanisms is superior to other existing techniques.
